Global Minimum Wage
A resolution to reduce income inequality and increase basic welfare.
Category: Social Justice
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Ginnoria
Description: ACKNOWLEDGING that a significant number of corporate entities operating within member nations circumvent national minimum wage laws by outsourcing labor to impoverished nations in the interest of reducing expenses,
RECOGNIZING that in the absence of social equity laws, said corporations can and often do treat third-world workers unfairly,
FURTHER RECOGNIZING that some businesses hire illegal immigrants from another country at wages far reduced from what they might offer native citizens, forcing said immigrants to live in poverty and denying native citizens job opportunities,
DEFINING a minimum wage as the minimum amount of money a worker requires to afford residence, food, and other necessities for living, paid regularly by the worker's employer in exchange for the job the worker performs,
FURTHER DEFINING the worker to be any person, regardless of location, citizenship, nationality, or any other factor, performing a job for said employer in the expectations of monetary reimbursement,
REQUIRES every member nation to enforce said minimum wage requirement upon all employer-worker relationships if either party resides within any member nation,
and FURTHER REQUIRES that if both parties reside outside of all member nations, member nations may not permit the activity of the employer's business, should it be in violation of the Global Minimum Wage, within their borders.
Approvals: 6 (Ginnoria, Ciorrastan, Baudrillard, Gaiah, Noxinland, Symria)
Status: Lacking Support (requires 144 more approvals)
Voting Ends: Wed May 25 2005
