One of the anti-war movements in the UK along with Stop The War, CND: www.respectcoalition.org/?ite=448The link above is to a postcard developed for the organisation on it's website. It's very powerful indeed.

Respect grew out of the STWC, so my comments on that thread apply here too. Plus that bigoted stalinist fuck George Galloway plays a leading role.

What a great debate. AIM, what have you got to say for yourself? ;D

LOL!
What have I got to say for myself?
I posted the link to see what the general view of them was, to generate debate and activity, when it was lacking on here.
Good to see that it worked.
Clapton Pond, that comment about George Galloway being a 'Stalinist bigoted fuck' is a great hypocritical comment that shall have me chuckling for the rest of the day. Thanks for that.

Coz, y'know, if you're gonna imply that I'm a stalinist and/or a bigot, it'd be nice to see at least some attempt at backing it up.
Or you could retract it, of course.
Unless I've completely misunderstood what you wrote, in which case I apologise for the misunderstanding.

You really don't know what he's referring to? I would guess it has something to do with my failure to join in slagging off W&T, after he made an obviously facetious remark about joining the 'stalinist zombies' in a post that was clearly roleplayed, and then tried to become delegate by the entirely democratic means of asking people to endorse him. If that's the case, then it's a pretty big leap from there to implying that I'm a bigoted stalinist - a big enough leap that I'd like to see some explanation (or a retraction). Especially as I've not (as far as I'm aware) made any similarly insulting remarks about AIM, or indeed anyone else here.

What's the state of affairs now between the Greens and RESPECT? Judging from what I've seen in the past, probably not too good, eh? (And what's Monbiot up to these days, and how do you think of him?) I must admit I'm not really up on what the greens are up to, but judging from that Tatchell article I wouldn't have thought relations were too friendly, no. Monbiot's a funny one. A lot of what he writes is really good, in a liberal reformist way, but then he has a tendency to start going on about how some sort of World Government would solve everything (presumably with him as leader). As I mentioned above, Respect are dominated by the SWP, with their (very hierarchical) Trotskyist ways of organising. Their vanguardism's one of Tatchell's criticisms of them too. I think the Greens may be doing a better job of avoiding it, but I don't really know so much about them. Well Tatchell's a Green party member, so he would say that, wouldn't he. I think a big problem for both the Greens and Respect is that they're perceived as (and campaign as) basically single-issue parties. Mind you, I don't really pay that much attention to electoral politics, so I'm probably just talking shit. ;D

Heh. 'Lifestyle Stalinist' indeed. ;D
Anyway, role-playing or not, I can't see where W&T went any further than to say he was disillusioned with anarchism and considering the possibility that vanguardist methods might be more effective. Everyone seemed happy to have a sensible debate about that. Then when he asked for endorsements, it suddenly got blown out of all proportion.
But as you say, we're probably not going to agree on that.
And yeah, we both understood what AIM was on about, but only because we were both involved in the original fiasco. It might not have been so clear to others, so I couldn't just let it go unchallenged (and I'm not entirely comfortable with being called a stalinist even when it is just an in-joke). I'd still like to see what AIM has to say for himself.

'Gorgeous' George Galloway is a prize cock, just like his old friend Saddam. RESPECT is just a way to get his face in the papers by exploiting widespread genuine grievances.
The Greens...hmm probably the best of a bad bunch...
