Just curious...I was spending an extraordinarily unhealthy amount of time the other day doing online personality quizzes and I was wondering if there might be a correlation between a person's 'type' and their politics. I don't think a person is born with a personality and don't believe this to be the most important factor in deciding someone's political views but I'd be interested to see if there is a crude link. There's a good test Jung developed that measures personality on four different scales: Introversion-Extroversion, Sensing-iNtuition, Thinking-Feeling and Judging-Percieving. The Enneagram is also quite fun but it's utter bullshit. You can do them both here: similarminds.com/embj.htmlI got Introvert iNtuitive Thinking Percieving (INTP) for the Jung one and 5W4 for the other, I'd be interested to see if there is some kind of'Anarchist Persoinality'. Let me know what y'all get! WC.

I've taken the Jungian (Myers-Briggs) one several times over the last 14 years or so, and I too am consistently INTP (although I'm not as extreme on the I and the T as I used to be). So that's three from three so far.
Whether that shows INTPs are more likely to be anarchists or just more likely to play games and do dumb personality tests on the intarweb, I don't know.
The Enneagram says I'm type 9 (calm), variant 'sexual' (sx/sp/so). Which is nice.

Playing games and doing dumb personality tests indeed ;D I'm not keen on these things and so far I've always come up with different results (this being at least the 3rd occasion). So I thought I'd prove a point by coming up as something completely different to you guys. Oh well It said I'm an INTP The other said 7 sx/sp/so. But, bah humbug, I don't believe a word of any of it. Anyway, good to see you all out and about (from M's link:"to understand and seek truth")

I got an ENFP, though so many of those questions i didn't even feel like i could really answer honestly, way too many "sometimes" or "in this situation but not others", or "hmm, never really thought about it"s. I had a lot more fun one time taking the personality test that the scientologists do, i answered every question as "wrong" as possible, and when they did the interview, the guy basically told me i was morbidly depressed. he seemed genuinely worried about me, so i really played it up. by the end of the interview he suggested i read Dianetics, so i asked him for a copy, and he said he had to charge me the $8. so i just left, i was really shocked that he could believe i needed help so bad and just let me go because i didn't have $8. the mormons gave me a free copy of their book.

At the risk of turning this into an INTP-fest, I thought that I'd pass on this link to the two of you. Found it some time ago and thought that it was one of the more thorough presentations of the INTP character type that I've come across: Wow, that is thorough. And it (mostly) has the ring of truth about it. I got an ENFP, though so many of those questions i didn't even feel like i could really answer honestly, way too many "sometimes" or "in this situation but not others", or "hmm, never really thought about it"s. Yeah, I've seen better versions of the test, but there are always at least a few questions that just aren't that clear-cut, or that don't make sense at all. But if you have a strong tendency towards a particular personality type it should come out consistently (it seems to for me, at any rate). You need to try a few different versions of the test though, to check. And I guess a lot of people are probably borderline (i.e. balanced) on at least one of the axes, in which case the results aren't gonna be clear. It works best if you're mentally unbalanced. ;D

Thanks for the link Michelaccio, I've actually come across it before somewhere and remember being very impressed at the time. I think it's genuininely a very good description of my personality type. They even got the stuff about music and photography pretty accurate, wierd... Hmm there does seem to be a strong INTP element in tACA, I thought that may be the case but certainly not to this extent. Not sure if we can really say that there is definately an ararchist/INTP correlation but a few things in Michelaccio's article seemed to suggest that INTPs may be attracted to anarchism in our cultural context, eg. the need for autonomy, the critical/analytical way of thinking, the proccupation with wider structures, the dislike of facades and the desire to seek out the truth among other things. Also the fact that INTPs are the rarest type would perhaps go some way towards explaining the relatively small number of anarchists there are in the world right now. Probably not though! This article contains some interesting ideas on the subject: www.strike-the-root.com/3/sampognaro/sampognaro1.htmlWC.
